this is the "most" complete timeline of intelsat 708 from the date of the contract being signed to mabuhay launch:p

1991

  • july 16 1991 - intelsat releases RFQ for the upcoming contract with CGWIC.

    • 1992

  • 11 may 1992 - space systems/loral submits an export license application to the US department of state, which covered the export of technical data to China
  • 24 april 1992 - 56$ million dollar contract awarded to CGWIC (china great wall industry corporation) to launch Intelsat-7A sats on Chinese rockets into geosynchronous transfer orbit. reasons for contract as cited were low price and politics.
  • 4 september 1992 - space systems/loral submits an export license application to the US department of state, which covered the export of the satellite itself to China
  • 18 september 1992 - space systems/loral acquires a license from the US state department to share technical data with china (No. 533593)

    • 1993

  • july 14 1993 - space systems/loral acquires another license (No. 544724) from the US state department for the export of the satellite and necessary equipment to china

    • 1994

  • october 1994 - space systems/loral and intelsat personnel arrive to xichang from chengdu. representative cites launch center as "primitive, but workable". personnel later taken on a trip to the great wall of china
